Hepatitis D Virus (HDV) or hepatitis delta virus is a defective RNA virus that requires co-infection with Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) to replicate. HDV infection can lead to more severe liver disease than HBV alone, including rapid progression to cirrhosis and liver failure.
